"I would emphatically recommend An Artists' Retreat with Anna Rhodes to anyone at any level of experience. The techniques and approaches to art that Anna uses are invaluable to the creative insight that artists require. An important feature of Anna's instruction is learning new ways to handle wonderful art materials. Anna's teaching technique can be described as empathetic. She takes the time to initially set up a lesson with supplemental intellectual materials that remind the artist of the wellspring of creativity, creating a “soundboard” for their own experience. She then guides the student through basic warm-ups and fundamentals that are essential to the layperson as well as the experienced artist. From that point, the work is generally bore from a formatted task which requires the student to work within a boundary, but extrapolate their own intuition. The student is taught instinctive approaches while being gently guided. Anna will demonstrate a technique or usage of a medium that is both introductory, but novel and insightful. An ample amount of high-quality and non-toxic supplies are made available for students to experiment with. Anna will make the student feel comfortable with the medium and trust his or her own creative impulse. The environment offered at Cavallo Point reinforces and nurtures the creativity that is essential for the experience. The hotel offers a wide variety of relaxation techniques and activities that create an overall peace of mind, that can foster the ideas that are presented in the art course. Everything from the hotel amenities to the meals that are served makes the attendee feel as if they are removed from their everyday experience. Anna's art course, coupled with the Cavallo Point environment, will create an active an insightful experience that will genuinely reinforce the technical skill and intellectual mastery of the student's art. I was carefully critical of my participation and was certainly won over-far past my expectations. It was one of the best experiences in art instruction I have had. " Hide
